Relationship between production of yolkless dwarf eggs and ovulation

Relationship between production of yolkless dwarf eggs and ovulation

Japanese Poultry Science 17(4): 199-203

Out of a flock of 17 900 White Leghorns, aged 11/2 yr, 28 hens which had laid a yolkless dwarf egg with a shell were examined for the timing of ovulation and oviposition pattern. Autopsies on 20 hens killed on the day of laying a dwarf egg revealed that ovulation had taken place on the preceding day; the 17 hens which laid an egg in the morning had a yolk in the oviduct, whereas the 3 which laid in the afternoon had not.
