Relationship between sex and developmental time in the onion fly Hylemya antiqua (Meigen)

Relationship between sex and developmental time in the onion fly Hylemya antiqua (Meigen)

Netherlands Journal of Zoology 29(2): 233-241

In laboratory studies in the Netherlands, a clear relationship was observed between sex and developmental time in 2 normal strains of Delia antiqua (Mg.) (Hylemya antiqua). The difference between the 2 sexes was manifest in the egg, larval and pupal stages. Quickly developing pupae from quickly developing larvae from quickly developing eggs gave rise primarily to males.
