Relationship between soil acidity and yield formation in permanent grass swards

Relationship between soil acidity and yield formation in permanent grass swards

Agrochemia 16(4): 109-111

In grass swards classified according to soil pH, mean hay yields rose with a change from acid to neutral soil regardless of the level and method of N fertilization, and at pH >7.1 again fell. Max. yields were attained in the range pH 6.1-7.0 and yields were only slightly lower at pH 5.1-6.0. Swards responded best to N fertilization on neutral soils in terms of kg hay/additional kg N. Yields fell at slightly basic reactivity (pH >7.1). Added N was utilized best in the neutral range.
