Carp (Cyprinus carpio) were kept from 7 days after hatching to 5 months old at optimum stocking rate in a pond where they were well fed, or in a tank where they were fed poorly. Well-fed carp from the 7th day to 4th week of life accumulated labelled iodine in the pharyngeal, not in the renal, thyroid centre. By the end of the trial the 125I accumulated in pharyngeal:renal centre was 1:15.6.
