Relationship between total and ionized calcium in cows with parturient paresis

Relationship between total and ionized calcium in cows with parturient paresis

Hellenike Kteniatrike Hellenic Veterinary Medicine 20(4): 189-195

Total and ionized Ca were investigated in 31 cows with parturient paresis, and in 21 cows which calved normally. In parturient paresis both ionized and total Ca were below normal, but especially the ionized Ca. A positive correlation was shown between the decrease in ionized Ca and the severity of the symptoms.
