Relationship of the activity of oxidating enzymes in bull semen and the physiological characters of the spermatozoa

Relationship of the activity of oxidating enzymes in bull semen and the physiological characters of the spermatozoa

Doklady Vsesoyuznoi Akademii Sel' skokhozyaistvennykh Nauk (4): 24-26

Samples of semen were obtained at intervals of 8-10 days over a 2-yr period from 73 bulls, aged 1.5-10 yr, of the Dutch Black Pied, Russian Black Pied and Aberdeen-Angus breeds, and the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) and cytochrome oxidase (CO) activities were determined. Significant correlations of 0.56, 0.60 and 0.68 were found between sperm survival (measured in min at 46.5 deg C) and the LDH, SDH and CO activities in the semen.
