Relationship of water exchange with lipid metabolism of winter wheat during hardening in autumn

The water status and lipid composition of tillering nodes of winter wheat plants during natural hardening in autumn when the temp. ranged from 14 to -18 deg C, were determined. There was a gradual dehydration of tissues and an increase in water loss by them. A marked increase in water-holding capacity of the tissues when the total water contents decreased indicated a redistribution of the fractional composition of water.
