Relationships among kernel weight, percentage protein and grain yield in grain sorghum

A high-protein and a low-protein line from each of four groups distinguished on the basis of grain size were used as parents in a half diallel cross. The 1976 F1 data, but not the 1975 F1 data, indicated a significant negative correlation between grain weight and percentage protein. Grain weight and yield were positively correlated in the F1 in 1976 and in the BC1 but not in the F1 in 1975. In the F2 and BC1, grain weight and number were negatively correlated.
