Relationships among stalk length, leaf area, and dry biomass of sugarcane

Experiments were carried out with the sugar cane cvs C.P.63-588, C.P.56-59, C.P.65-357, Cl.54-378 and Cl.54-336 in lysimeters where water tables were maintained at 30, 60 or 90 cm. The C.P.65-357 was also planted in the field at 0.5 and 1.5 m row spacings. Leaf area and stalk length were measured. Two equations involving leaf area were developed. The first equation estimated leaf area (Y) from stalk length (X) by an exponential-hyperbolic function; i.e.
