Relationships between alkaloids in reed canarygrass (Phalaris arundinacea), soil moisture and nitrogen fertility

Levels of gramine, hordenine and 5-methoxy-N-methyltryptamine (5MMT) were monitored during the growing season in 3 reed canarygrass subjected to adequate or minimal irrigation, with or without N fertilizer. Conc. of gramine and hordenine increased under moisture stress, the effect being enhanced by N fertilizer. The conc. of 5MMT was mainly affected by N fertilizer.
