Relative sensitivity of eighteen hybrid combinations of Pinus taeda L. to ozone

Relative sensitivity of eighteen hybrid combinations of Pinus taeda L. to ozone

Proceedings of the American Phytopathological Society 4: 86

Seedlings of 18 hybrid combinations of P. taeda were screened for sensitivity of primary needles to O3 (0.15-0.25 p.p.m.) at 2-4 wk old and (of secondary needles) 12-13 months later. The 2 most sensitive crosses involved the same parent, as did 3 of the most tolerant crosses, indicating that tolerance may be inherited, and that breeding programmes with P. taeda, for resistance to O3, may be feasible.
