Removal of colloidal matter and disinfection of dairy farm water supplies

3 systems for chemical clarification and disinfection of water used for sanitation of milking equipment on 2 dairy farms in Northern Victoria were assessed for reliability, convenience and economy over a 12-month period. System 1 used dam water in a 23 000 l. concrete tank. Aluminium sulphate (48 mg/l.) was added and the water recirculated through a filter until clear.
