Renal cadmium concentration in relation to smoking habits and blood pressure

The Cd concentration of renal tissue from 120 Danish patients who died at 45 to 65 years old was estimated by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The concentration did not differ significantly between urban and rural dwellers or between men and women. The concentration of Cd in kidneys from cigarette smokers was about twice that in kidneys from nonsmokers. Renal Cd concentration was higher in normotensive that in hypertensive patients.
