In the 1st of 2 experiments, gilts and sows were allowed 1.9 kg of a gestation diet each day. This allowance was fed either as a single daily 1.9-kg meal or as a composite 5.7-kg meal every 3rd day. Gilts fed every 3rd day farrowed fewer live pigs than those fed daily. In sows, there was no evidence of any deleterious effect of this feeding programme on reproductive performance.
