Of 85 accessions of Ae. squarrosa, 10 were resistant to Puccinia graminis and 38 were resistant to P. recondita. The gene SrSQ, reconditioning resistance to P. graminis, was transferred from Ae. squarrosa RL5288 to the Triticum aestivum varietal hybrid Prelude X Marquis following hybridization of Ae. squarrosa RL5288 with Tetra Canthatch wheat.
