Abstract
The fattening performance of male calves from matings of Simmental, Charolais, Chiana, Romagna, Piedmont and Marche bulls with German Black Pied cows was studied from 5 to 15 mth of age. For the 41, 53, 12, 17, 27 and 13 crossbred males in the 6 groups resp., body weight at 15 mth of age averaged 540.8, 542.5, 507.5, 541.0, 526.4 and 522.3 kg, daily gain during fattening 1189, 1176, 1150, 1212, 1162 and 1182 g, and consumption of feed energy equivalents/kg gain 3004, 3079, 3073, 3016, 3040 and 3046. The av. daily gain during fattening of the Piedmont crossbreds was significantly lower than that of the Charolais crossbreds.
