Abstract
The fattening performance of male calves from matings of Simmental, Charolais, Romagna, Piedmont and Marche bulls with German Black Pied cows was studied from 122 to 456 days of age. All animals were fed a basic ration to 273 days of age, and thereafter were given supplements including concentrates and minerals. Throughout, silage was fed ad lib. For the 11, 15, 23, 22 and 22 crossbreds in the 5 groups resp., end fattening weight averaged 585.2, 571.5, 591.4, 577.3 and 593.0 kg, daily gain 1104, 1063, 1112, 1063 and 1124 g, and consumption of feed energy equivalents/kg gain 3410, 3634, 3486, 3626 and 3423. Detailed results are tabulated.
