Results of wintering honeybees in Langstroth single-walled hives

Results of wintering honeybees in Langstroth single-walled hives

Pszczelnicze Zeszyty Naukowe 22: 71-84

Colonies were wintered under Polish conditions in (a) a single-walled Langstroth hive, or (b) the same, but wrapped with tar paper, or (c) a double-walled Langstroth hive. The highest temperature, with the least variation, was maintained in (c); in the following year colony development and honey production were better in (c) than in (a) or (b). Moisture condensation was slightly higher in (a), and colonies in (a) and in (b) consumed more winter stores than those in (c).
