The objectives of three programme components from the Committee on Agricultural Development (9-15 October 1979, Dacca) are described: (1) to facilitate improvement in and implementation of agricultural plans and programmes by analyzing major policies and strategies, and to assist member countries in their development planning efforts by providing consultation and training facilities and by collecting, processing and disseminating information on current research and development activities related to food and agriculture; (2) to assist member governments in their efforts to improve the living conditions of low-income groups in rural areas; (3) to review the implementation of the Plan of Action at the National level, to exchange information on technical matters and to find ways and means of regional and sub-regional co-operation in combating desertification in arid and semi-arid areas of Asia.
