N fixation by algae in long-term fertilizer trials at IRRI; the photo-dependent N fixation by deep-water rice nodal roots of RD6255 in which colonies of blue-green alge accumulated around the axils of emerging lateral roots; and N fixation by Azolla-Anabaena associations are discussed.
