Abstract
The erucic acid free varieties Lesira, Erra, Orle, Rapora and Primor were grown in small plots near the erucic acid containing varieties Rapol, Diamant [Diamond], Lenora, Norde and Major. Estimates of outcrossing rate, which ranged from 5 to 15%, were derived from the proportion of seeds with a high erucic acid content in samples of 80 seeds from each variety. Although the experiment lacked orthogonality for the systematic analysis of spacing effects on outcrossing, 15 different formulae were elaborated to describe the distance between pairs of varieties in an attempt to characterize varietal and spacing effects on outcrossing rate.
