Studies on interspecific hybridization in Brassica. I. Effect of temperature on the development of hybrid embryos and improvement of the cross success rate by ovary culture in B. campestris X B. oleracea crosses

Female plants of B. campestris subsp. pekinensis 'Muso' and B. campestris subsp. narinosa 'Yuki' were crossed with male plants of B. oleracea var. capitata 'Chokoyayoi'. Excised ovaries were then cultured and the effect of temperature on the development of hybrid embryos was studied. Ovary culture at low temperatures slows the rate of development in the embryos.
