Studies on once-daily artificial insemination programs

Studies on once-daily artificial insemination programs

Animal Science Research Report, Agricultural Experiment Station, Oklahoma State University (MP-104): 214-217

Records collected in a dairy herd on about 200 cows and heifers over a 2-yr period were analysed. Observation of oestrus was carried out 3 times daily with the aid of marker bulls, and females detected at 08.00 or 13.00 h were inseminated in the afternoon of the same day, while females detected at 17.00 h were inseminated the next morning or afternoon. 70-80% of females were detected in heat at 08.00 or 13.00 h; the number of inseminations per conception averaged 1.50.
