Studies on plaque reduction test in foot and mouth disease vaccinated animals

To evaluate the immune status of FMD vaccinated animals, the plaque reduction test was conducted using BHK21 monolayer cell line. All three FMD virus types were tested. The size and number of plaques in the 3 types were distinct. With type 'O' virus it was 1-2 mm, with type 'A' it was 3-5 mm and with type 'C' it was 1-3 mm. A few trials were conducted with an effort to correlate the challenge result of cattle with plaques reduction percentage.
