Semen from 4 Saanen goats was frozen, in ampoules or straws, first in dry ice and alcohol and then in liquid nitrogen. The optimum egg yolk percentage was 20 in a sodium citrate diluent, and the optimum glycerol percentage was 14-16. For glycerol equilibration times of 1.5-48.0 h, the best sperm motility was obtained with 6-18 h equilibration. Good post-thawing motility was obtained with a semen diluent referred to as ECSD.
