Studies on response of potato (Solanum tuberosum, L) to various soil moisture levels and mulches and its economics in relation to tuber yield

An experiment was carried out to arrive at an economic practice of either a soil moisture regime or mulch for potatoes during the rabi season. The variety 'Up-to-date' was selected for the study. Weekly irrigation was the best practice for getting the highest net return (Rs. 17844.35 per ha). This regime receiving 501 mm water in 13 irrigations at 6-8 day intervals resulted in a maximum yield (366.41 q/ha.).
