Studies on the bark of Quercus rubra

Gorskostopanska Nauka 15(5): 54-66

A total of 1288 bark samples was taken from plantations of Q. rubra aged 20-70 yr in Bulgaria. Most of the samples were taken by increment borer at b.h. Details are shown in tables and graphs of: bark thickness at b.h. in relation to tree age and d.b.h.; bark thickness along the stem; bark vol. in relation to tree age and d.b.h.; bark wt. in relation to d.b.h. and bark wt. per ha. The bark thickness is similar to that reported for Q. rubra in Hungary, and much thinner than in the USA.
