Studies on the cell-mediated immunity in chickens infected with Marek's disease virus

Chickens were infected by i/p injection of strain GA acute Marek's disease virus in heparinized blood at one or 21 days of age or were vaccinated with FC-126 strain HVT at one day. Blood samples were collected at intervals. 51Cr-labelled HPRS line 1 lymphoblasts were used in a cytotoxicity test to assay the effect of lymphocytes in the blood. Cytotoxic response was enhanced at 3 weeks after infection and persisted for a further 8 weeks in chickens infected with MD virus at one day.
