Studies on the chemical constituents of wild mints. XIII. Essential oil of Mentha gentilis L. containing pulegone-8-hydroxy-3-p-menthene as a major component

Journal of the Agricultural Chemical Society of Japan 53(8): 269-271

Oils of M. gentilis harvested on 3 dates from Okinawa and Kyushu contained some 40 components which are listed with their concentrations. Pulegone contents in the 2 oils were, respectively, 82.5 and 86.2% in August, 64.0 and 68.6% in October and 48.5 and 52.6% in November. Corresponding values for 8-hydroxy-3-p-methene were 1.8 and 1.6%, 19.2 and 11.7%, and 26.1 and 24.0%.
