Studies on the duration of dormancy and methods of determining the germination of dormant seeds of Helianthus annuus

Studies on the duration of dormancy and methods of determining the germination of dormant seeds of Helianthus annuus

Seed Science and Technology 7(2): 179-188

When measured by the mean values over 3 yr, dormancy in sunflower seeds varied with from 12-15 days for line LC-2 to 37-40 days for Record and line LC-1. The degree of maturity of the seeds also influenced the dormancy duration; seed harvested early with a m.c. of 41-62% broke dormancy after 42-51 days, while seed harvested in the final maturity stage with a m.c. of 8-12% broke dormancy 22-29 days after harvesting.
