In a pot trial, rice Karikalan was grown on an alluvial or a black soil from the Madurai district, which had been given 0, 5, 10 or 15 p.p.m. Zn as ZnSO4. Max. grain and straw yield of 9.23 and 15.7 g/pot, resp. with the alluvial soil and 12.9 and 17.8 g/pot, resp. with the black soil, were obtained with applications of 20 p.p.m. Zn. N uptake by grain was not affected by Zn application, but N uptake in straw and P uptake in grain and straw were max. with applications of 10 p.p.m. Zn.
