The effects of sodium oxybate on the electroencephalogram (EEG), electromyogram (EMG), electrocardiogram (ECG), brain temperature, brain oxygen tention (pO2), and rumination were investigated in three conscious female goats. When 0.5 or 0.6 mmoles/kg were injected into the jugular vein, the proportion of high amplitude slow waves (SW, 200-400 mu V, 1-2 Hz) in the EEG increased, but that of paradoxical sleep was unchanged.
