Studies on the floral biology of some myrobalan (Prunus cerasifera) varieties

The cvs studied in the Plovdiv region were Chervena, Rozova, Ranna Zh"lta, Sinya and Zh"lta Af"zka. They flowered in late March-early April after an effective temperature sum (>8 deg C) of 20 to 45 deg depending on Ranna Zh"lta and Sinya had the best pollen germination. Under ordinary storage conditions the pollen remained viable for 14 days after discharge from the anthers. The number of pollen grains/anther varied from 495 to 711.
