N, P or Ca deficits depressed the growth and reproduction of E. crassipes; the P content of leaves was reduced by all 3 deficit treatments. The growth of adult plants increased with the increase in ammonium-N level from 0 to 160 p.p.m. while young plants showed max. growth in 40 p.p.m. ammonium-N; reproduction was also maximal in 40 p.p.m. ammonium-N.
