In rice Honenwase and Fujiminori the increase in dry wt. during ear formation was greater with deep-placed N than with shallow placement. High rates of side-dressed N increased yields by 6% in Honenwase and 8% in Fujiminori and in Fujiminori deep placement increased yields by 12%.
