Studies on the haemolymph of the queen honeybee. 7. Ultrastructural observations on some figured elements

Studies on the haemolymph of the queen honeybee. 7. Ultrastructural observations on some figured elements

Redia 61: 179-190 + 7 pl.

The ultrastructure of some of the haemocytes found in haemolymph from queen honeybees is described. "Type 1" cells and leucocytes contained dense globules, vacuoles and microtubules, and they resembled leucocytes from worker honeybees. Proleucocytes and free nuclei are also described and illustrated. Possible ontogenetic relationships between the various types of haemocyte, and the physiological significance of free nuclei, are discussed. D. G.
