Studies on the induction of high sterility male linked translocations in Culex p. fatigans

Studies on the induction of high sterility male linked translocations in Culex p. fatigans

Indian Journal of Medical Research 65 Suppl: 1-12

In laboratory studies in India, adult males of Culex pipiens fatigans Wied. carrying a male-linked translocation were exposed to gamma -radiation from 60Co at a dose of 3500 rad, and lines with 70-80% male-linked partial sterility were derived from the progeny. These levels of sterility were maintained when selection was made for high sterility, but the sterility levels gradually declined to 50% when selection was relaxed.
