Heritabilities in the number of ova were 0.3-0.67, showing various values in relation to crossing type. The grade of heterosis in hybrids among strains with a smaller ovulation rate was relatively high compared to that among those with a larger ovulation rate. Heritabilities in the number of implants, live fetuses (at 17 days postcoital), and litter size were 0.17-0.35, 0.14-0.06 and 0.01-0.38, respectively. Intense heterosis apparently existed regarding litter size and fetus survival in hybrid mice. The number of ova, implants and live fetuses were significantly correlated to the various combinations of crossing.
