Five trials are reported. 1. Apple yields were lower in the absence of K and Mg than with complete fertilizer. Fruit rots and bitter pit were greatly reduced by CaCl2 sprays, which, however, encouraged lenticel spotting on Golden Delicious. On Cox's Orange Pippin apples infection by Botrytis, Gloeosporium and Penicillium were lowest in the absence of Mg and bitter pit was least in the absence of K and Mg. Mildew (Podosphaera leucotricha) was lowest with an acid N fertilizer and no Ca. 2.
