Studies were conducted to evaluate the relationship between metal-binding activity and growth regulatory activity of alpha -substituted pyridine derivatives. Complex formation between Cu++ and the pyridine compounds was estimated with spectrophotometry. Picolinic acid, fusaric acid (5-butylpicolinic acid), dipicolinic acid and picloram formed complexes with Cu++. However, 3,6-dichloropicolinic acid and triclopyr did not.
