Studies on the possibility of breeding strawberries for resistance to powdery mildew

Results of tests of the Balsgard collection showed that only the Norwegian varieties Jonsok and Glima had good field resistance to Sphaerotheca macularis. Most varieties showing severe attack, also exhibited red coloration of the leaves. However, Gorella, with good resistance, also had strong coloration, while Redcoat, Red Gauntlet and Templar were very susceptible but had practically no reddening of the leaves.
