Studies on the thymus of infant Murrah buffalo calves (Bubalus bubalis). II. Histology and histochemistry

Studies on the thymus of infant Murrah buffalo calves (Bubalus bubalis). II. Histology and histochemistry

Mysore Journal of Agricultural Sciences 12(2): 300-304

The thymus glands of 10 buffalo calves (5 to 15 days old) were studied. In young calves the gland has a central continuous medulla surrounded by a cortex which is divided into lobes and lobules by septa which penetrate to the cortico-medullary junction from the enveloping connective tissue capsule. Cells in the cortex are mainly lymphocytes with a few reticular cells while in the medulla reticular cells outnumber lymphocytes.
