Studies on tissue culture of Cattleya species. II. Methods of preventing the browning of explanted tissue

Studies on tissue culture of Cattleya species. II. Methods of preventing the browning of explanted tissue

Journal of the Japanese Society for Horticultural Science 48(2): 199-204

Cattleya explants usually discolour and eventually die in the presence of phenolic compounds produced by explanted tissue. In a new technique which gave better growth and survival rates in Cattleya trianae Mooreana, lateral buds with bracts were excised from new pseudobulbs and explanted in liquid RM medium which was renewed every 3 weeks; then bracts and leaf primordia were removed to expose the apical domes which were then transferred to a solid RM medium.
