Survival of native Rhizobium meliloti in sandy loam soils

The survival of indigenous R. meliloti was studied in 15 sandy loam soils that were maintained in laboratory conditions for 2 yr. 50-94% of the bacteria survived, 70% of which could still nodulate lucerne effectively.
