The development of dairy cow yields in the member countries of today's European Community 1960-1976

The development of dairy cow yields in the member countries of today's European Community 1960-1976

20th International Dairy Congress, Paris, France, June 26th-30th-1978 Brief communications: 1-2

The av. milk yields of dairy cows in 1960-62 and 1974-76 are tabulated for the 9 EEC countries. Total milk production increased from about 78 000 000 tonnes in 1960-62 to about 92 000 000 tonnes in 1974-76. The increase was achieved by improvements in yields rather than by an increase in the number of dairy cattle. Average yields now exceed 4000 kg in the Netherlands (4650), Denmark (4360), UK (4140) and the German Federal Republic (4010).
