The effect of different heating methods on the growth and productivity of cucumbers and tomatoes in plastic-covered greenhouses

In studies with the cucumber VIR-517 and the tomato Peremoga-165, the soil was warmed electrically or with straw bales and the air with an electric fan. With January/February planting, using any one of the heating methods separately gave disappointing results with regard to plant rooting, development and early yield. The highest cucumber yield (16.1 kg/m2) was obtained from greenhouses with the soil warmed by straw bales and the air electrically warmed.
