The effect of heterospermy on conception rate and fertility of inseminated sows and gilts

The effect of heterospermy on conception rate and fertility of inseminated sows and gilts

Zivocisna Vyroba 23(10): 735-741

Semen was obtained from 6 Hampshire, 4 Duroc and 2 Belgian Landrace boars. 712 homospermic and 488 heterospermic inseminations were carried out using insemination doses containing not less than 3 X 109 motile spermatozoa. Heterospermic doses contained equal numbers of spermatozoa from >1 boar. For sows, the CR to 1st insemination was 73.1% after homospermic insemination v 79.6 after heterospermic insemination, the difference being highly significant.
