The effect of sowing methods on the yield and botanical composition of a grass/legume mixture grown on peat muck soil

In field trials in 1974-6, a grass/legume seed mixture dominated by Festuca pratensis and F. rubra was broadcast, drilled or cross-drilled on peat muck soils and the percentage established ground cover by the different spp. and hay yields and chemical composition were examined. Cocksfoot, Poa pratensis and Trifolium hybridum gave good establishment and growth and in the 1st harvest yr the greatest number of weeds was found in broadcast plots.
