The authors describe phylogenetic similarities within a group of oriental species of Toxorhynchites, analysing them according to numerical taxonomy based on the pupal and adult morphometric characters of both sexes separately. This analysis represents one of several approaches leading eventually to a monographic treatment of Toxorhynchites worldwide, which will include morphological, geographical, ecological, cytogenetic and biochemical data and which will combine conventional taxonomy, numerical phenetics and cladistics.
