The occurrence of the willow shot-hole midge (Helicomyia saliciperda Dufour (Cecidomyidae)) on white willow (Salix alba Linnaeus) and funeral willow (Salix alba var. vitellina-pendula Rehder)

Zeitschrift fur Angewandte Entomologie 87(2): 203-215

The systematic position of Helicomyia saliciperda (Duf.) is given, and the literature on this pest reviewed. Detai;s are given of its distribution and characteristics of its attack on species of willow (Salix). For controlling the pest it is suggested that a sticky substance should be applied to the trees in March to trap the larvae. However, this method is not economical for use on older trees.
